Today, I invite you to appreciate a very rare piece of Ref.1016 (MK0), and Mr. Udagawa will give you a simple explanation of Ref.1016. I hope you enjoy it.
Ref.1016 is the third generation Explorer I, made around 1963 to 1988. The whole watch is made of stainless steel with an acrylic crystal. The watch size was the popular 36 mm at that time. It’s about 13 mm thick and weighs around 96 g. In terms of movements, the in-house models used vary depending on the production period. The calibre was Cal. 1560 for early models before 1970 and Cal. 1570 for later models after 1970. Both are Rolex-developed movements, but the difference is that the Cal. 1570 adds a stop-seconds feature to the Cal. 1560 for better usability.
Over a period of up to 25 years, Ref.1016 introduced up to 5 types of dials. Among them, the most popular and rare are the early dials MK0 and MK1, and we have summarized the corresponding years of each dial for you.
