Description
When it comes to the Datejust, many watch enthusiasts will first think of the Ref. 16234 or Ref. 16233 with a gold bezel (i.e., a “dogtooth ring”), but the stainless steel bezel also feels very good. The steel bezel on the current model is a flat polished bezel, not called the Engine Turned bezel as shown in the picture, and its model number is Ref. 16220.
In addition, the Ref. 16220 also has some features that were only available before the 1990s, such as pierced ears on the side of the case and a dial with small Roman hour markers, which is estimated to be preferred by many friends who like classic watches. The one pictured is an unpolished specimen from 1992, and it’s still in excellent condition.
The tritium glow on the dial fades slightly to a creamy color, giving the white dial a bit more depth. The small Roman markers have a very different look compared to the usual large Roman or bar indexes, making it a lovely discontinued watch, especially since it is unpolished from the 1990s.
There are many full-size watches that are in average condition or have had their cases flattened due to repeated maintenance and polishing, so a good-quality watch that has not been polished for a long time is rare and valuable. In addition, its back cover still retains the sticker from the time, and the traces of the model Ref. 16220 can be clearly seen on the sticker, which makes it a second-hand watch with relatively minimal signs of use.
The bezel is also in very good condition, and like the case, it is unpolished. The biggest selling point of the Ref. 16220 should be its bezel. The overall look is sharp and angular, and it even feels a bit sharp to the touch. The strap’s code is 555B, and there is no slack overall, making it a very nice commemorative strap, as most commemorative bracelets from the 1990s are relatively loose.
Noah Green –
This watch keeps perfect time. I don’t think it has lost a second in a week.
