Description
As far back as the 1930s, the brand has equipped explorers with Oyster watchesfor several Himalayan expeditions. These include Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reaching the top of the world for the first time at 8,848 meters (29,028 ft).
The 40mm Oyster case of the Explorer 40 is guaranteed to be water-resistant to 100 meters (330 feet), making it a model of durability. The middle case of the new model is made of solid Oystersteel. The finely fluted caseback is screwed down by Rolex watchmakers with a special tool exclusive to the brand, sealing the case so that only Rolex watchmakerscan access the movement. The double-lock winding crown features a dual waterproofing system and screws securely against the case. Mirrored to prevent reflection and made of blue crystal, it is highly resistant to scratches.
