With both the Explorer and the Water Ghost having already had new versions released, rumors swirled that Rolex would make a big move with the Daytona this year. Indeed, Rolex has just unveiled its latest model for 2023, and the Daytona has received a new version, or more precisely, major updates.

First, the Daytona has introduced a new version, the Gangdi model 126500. The appearance hasn’t changed much; the diameter remains 40 mm, but the thickness has decreased from 12.5 mm on the 116500 to 11.9 mm.

The outer edge of the ceramic bezel now features an extra metal ring. The steel version has a steel rim, as shown by the red part of the picture below. The Jindi version has a gold ring. The movement has also been updated, though not to the 4230 as expected, but to the 4131. Essentially, this is a refined version of the 4130: polishing has been improved, and it uses the Chronergy escapement and the Parachrom hairspring, though the power reserve remains the same at 72 hours.

The upgrade of this Daytona is actually very similar to the previous Water Ghost. There isn’t much difference between the new model and the old one, which could affect the market for the older model. However, the Ice Blue Di and Green Gold Di versions are exceptions.
