Manually turning the winding crown, skipping the 31st day and showing the 1st day directly, is a tough job for the machine and also very tedious. That’s why, during the Enlightenment, when the perpetual calendar watch was introduced, the dial showed the date directly as long as the watch stayed functional, without needing adjustments.
