Two months before the opening of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva in 2018, Cartier was the first to reveal the new Rotonde de Cartier Mystery Day & Night Display. With this watch, the brand showcases two classic features: a mysterious movement and a day/night display. These two features are a significant part of Cartier‘s watchmaking history, going back to 1912. On one hand, the mystery movement was created for the Model A mystery clock; on the other hand, the day and night display movement is a key part of the planetary clock.
At the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva in 2018, Cartier introduced both features to the watchmaking world for the first time. In the upper part of the dial, the sun (hands) is powered by a mysterious movement that moves from left to right until it is handed over to the moon (hands). The sun (pointer) and moon (pointer) alternate to show the time of day and night. In the lower part of the dial, the retrograde hand shows the minutes. Radial guilloché and satin-brushed finishes further highlight the watch’s unique look.
The case is made of 18-carat rose gold and has a diameter of 40 mm. It features the Cartier 9982 MC hand-wound movement, assembled from 174 parts, with 26 jewels and a 48-hour power reserve when fully wound. It comes on a grey alligator leather strap with an 18-carat rose gold folding clasp. Flip the watch over to see the movement and the day and night display on the case back. The Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Mystery Day & Night Rose Gold is not available in a limited edition and is also offered in 18-carat white gold.
Daniel Cowper –
So far it tells time very accurately and goes perfectly with my outfits. It is not too bulky, so it is not intrusive during practical tasks.
