Constellation was the most popular and powerful name of the 1950s. I remember that in that era, everything called Constellation was notable: Lockheed’s Connie Constellation (1943-1958), Studebaker-Packard’s Fastsail Constellation two-seater hardtop coupe (1955-1956), the United States Navy’s Kitty Hawk-class Constellation aircraft carrier (1957), and of course, Omega’s Constellation (1952).
Launched in 1952, the Omega Constellation was created with a goal to achieve precision and is certified by chronometer testing, the highest standard in the industry. In 1960 alone, more than 20,000 Constellations were certified by the Observatory. Between 1964 and 1966, OMEGA also set a record for 100,000 consecutive-numbered Constellations (24,410,000 to 24,509,999) that successfully passed the chronometer tests.
On June 29, 1976, a self-winding calibre 1021 numbered 39050076, which achieved a rare zero error at the Swiss Observatory, was housed in the case of the Constellation “C”, becoming an outstanding member of the Constellation family.
