The trilogy of OMEGA space watches: the Speedmaster was originally designed as a racing timer; not all Speedmasters are space watches, so the first generation CK2915 was not involved in space missions. By chance, the Speedmaster, originally a racing watch, became linked to space.
In 1962, during the Mercury program, the CK2998, worn by astronaut Walter Schella, orbited the Earth and became Omega’s first space watch.
The 1965 Gemini program featured the ST105.003, which was worn during astronaut White’s spacewalk.
On July 21, 1969, during the Apollo 7 program, astronaut Neil Armstrong, who carried out the moon mission, took a small step for mankind, and the ST105.012/ST145.012 was given to the three astronauts in the program.
These three historic moments are the beginnings of the OMEGA Space Watch. There are many stories behind it, among which the CK2998 stands out due to an incident involving astronauts: Walter Schella and Golden Cobb bought the Omega Speedmaster CK2998 privately, allowing “Omega” to inadvertently go to space for the first time. It was the fate of the CK2998 that started the follow-up cooperation between OMEGA and NASA. Today, the focus of our sharing is this watch.
