Over the past 20 years, mentors and protégés of the Rolex Protégé Arts Programme (i.e., Rolex Art Protégés) have built a large global arts community that has attracted hundreds of talented advisors and nominees from around the world who have shared their expertise with the programme. The results were surprising. In Athens, the birthplace of art and culture, we are taking the chance to bring together the artists of the Creative Recommendation Grant Scheme to look back at the past and share the outcomes of the Rolex Festival with the public.”

The official opening of the Rolex Festival will be preceded by four days of warm-up activities (22-25 May), including all-day workshops, master classes, public speaking, musical performances, and rehearsals. Participants included several Greek artists, as well as former Rolex protégés and mentors, such as Anne Lacaton, Phyllida Lloyd, Robert Lepage, Walter Murch, and Colm Tóibín.

Thirty private and public events were held in eight different venues in Athens, covering all seven areas of Rolex‘s art. More than 200 Greek and international artists will give talks, performances, or presentations in collaboration with the following renowned cultural institutions in Athens: Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center; Benaki Museum | 138 Pireos Street; ΕΜΣΤ | National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens; Megaron the Athens Concert Hall; Athens Epidaurus Festival, National Theatre of Greece; and Astor Cinema.
