In the sweltering heat of Putrajaya, Malaysia, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, the world’s fastest mechanical sports tour, took place for the first time in East Asia.
In the end, Nigel Lamb, one of the top pilots in the United Kingdom from the Breitling aerobatic team, beat all his rivals to win the Red Bull Aerobatics World Championship and the first Red Bull World Championship title of his career. Breitling‘s supported pilot, François le Vot, has also won all three Challenger Trophies this season. BREITLING, Switzerland’s top independent watch brand, has won the Red Bull Aerobatic World Championships for the first time.
The Red Bull Aerobatic World Championships is the world’s fastest mechanical sports event featuring the best pilots, combining speed, precision, bravery, and skill. The tournament has two levels: Masters Class and Challenger Class. The fastest, lightest, and most agile race-specific machines are used; the wide water surface acts as a barrier line made of inflatable air piles that are only 25 meters high. During the race, the pilot flies around the piles at a very low altitude, with speeds reaching up to 370 kilometers per hour, and the G-force at sharp turns hitting as high as 10G.
As a race partner and official timekeeper, BREITLING will witness the challenge of elite flying with an accuracy of one hundredth of a second and will also send the BREITLING Racing Team to compete. The 2014 Red Bull World Aerobatics Championships will be held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the U.A.E., featuring eight rounds of competition, visits to seven countries on three continents, and the final event of the year will take place in Chengdu, China, for the first time.
