Cartier was inspired by the transparency and varied reflections of mother-of-pearl. Its dial is covered with very fine mother-of-pearl inserts, showing the delicacy of feathers.
It is a very detailed carving process where tiny pieces are cut based on the transparency and color of the mother-of-pearl, and then carved into the shape of a feather using a precise carving tool. This is how the engraver shows the color gradient from woad pink to cloud white, creating a perfect sense of depth and dimension.
Cartier used a soft color palette that contrasted with the strong colors, featuring a yellow crown, black eyes, and a beak made of fill-in-enamel. The creation highlights tonal gradation and realistic painting techniques and took nearly 50 hours to complete. The white parrot looks like it just flew in from outside the frame, ready to move. Combining realism and imagination, the two rows of brilliant-cut diamonds around the dial make the white parrot even more eye-catching. This model is limited to 80 pieces.
