Driven by a strong curiosity about the world and its wonders, this year Cartier is passionate about a goldsmithing craft that began at the dawn of human civilization: the art of metal beads. To revive this ancient and rare craft, Cartier has carefully adapted and refined it to bring it back to life in an even better form.
Crafted from metal beads, the Cartier d’Art Haute Horde refreshes an ancient and precious craft that dates back to the early part of the third millennium BC. This extremely detailed and clever decorative technique, which reached its peak during the first millennium of the Etruscan civilization, is showcased by famous ancient objects decorated with “granulation étrusque”.
In the metal bead process, cut gold wire is heated until tiny beads form, and the whole process is like planting seeds of gold. The gold beads are then placed one by one in the areas to be decorated and mixed with the gold base to create a vivid three-dimensional pattern.
The result is striking: a vibrant, radiant cheetah head appears on the dial. This cheetah, representing an ancient craft passed down through thousands of years, seems to defy time and holds the secrets of the craftsmanship that Cartier will protect from now on.
