If the exterior represents the legacy of the past, then the interior is a never-ending journey into the future. Since 1999, Omega has been improving the co-axial escapement. After ETA2892 upgrades, the development of the 2500 series calibre, and finally the 8900 series calibre that the Zunba is equipped with, Omega has finally freed the Co-Axial escapement from the problem of frequent steel stops.
Not only that, but the new calibre is also designed to work perfectly under the most demanding conditions, the Master Chronometer METAS. Different from the COSC certification mentioned above, METAS pays more attention to the effect of magnetic fields on mechanical watches in addition to the accuracy of timekeeping. To reduce the impact of magnetic fields, some watches are designed to wrap the movement with anti-magnetic soft iron, but the Globemaster has a clear design, which means that the movement itself is already able to resist magnetic fields.
In fact, as early as 2013, Omega launched the “fully anti-magnetic” 8400 calibre and used it in the Seamaster 300. Today’s Master Chronometer calibre perfectly inherits the full anti-magnetic setup of the 8400 series, not only using a Si14 silicon balance spring but also replacing the original steel parts with non-iron-based materials for all levers and bearing parts inside the movement. The escapement system also uses non-magnetic components; even the small shock-absorbing parts are made of new materials with an amorphous structure. Coupled with precise chronometer adjustment, it can be said that it is equipped to the max, so as to meet the eight strict regulations of METAS.
Although challenges are tough, they also create opportunities and lay the groundwork for another leap in the future. From 2013 to 2016, even as the industry’s prosperity was declining, Omega’s requirements for the quality of watches became more and more stringent. Innovative materials, strict standards, reasonable prices, practical functions— all these come together in a fresh take on historical classics, and the new constellation is well-deserved!

The watch is perfect. I have worn it for a few days. It is highly recommended.
