1964 was another important year, in which the Constellation collection completed its style change. Previously, in addition to the precise movement, the biggest feature of the Constellation series was the design of the dial. The three-dimensional diamond-shaped markers are tilted into the shape of an upside-down baking pan (pie-pan), and the elegant toffee hands create a highly recognizable layered dial.
After 1964, Omega redesigned the dial and case of the Constellation. The new case looks like two C’s crossed back to back, just like Chanel, only closer together. The dial has also changed from three-dimensional to flat, and the hands and markers have become ordinary rods and bars. The new design was indeed “simple” compared to before; the case, dial, and hands—all the details were removed. Some American brands of the same period had similar designs.Although Omega added braces in 1966 to enrich the details, they were never as elegant and refined as the first version.
The timeless design of a vintage watch is considered a classic today, but the size of the watch at that time was no longer suitable for current fashion. In 2015, Omega also followed the trend with the launch of the new Constellation Master.
