For Cartier, time is mysterious: both in its form and in its human perception of time are elusive. Cartier watches are constantly innovating and exploring how we understand time. The skill of the Maison’s watchmakers makes the mechanical parts invisible, revealing the beauty of time in a frozen moment.
Each year, the Cartier Privé collection presents a limited edition of watches that blend Cartier’s classic style with a modern look that collectors have come to expect. Following the Crash, Tank Cintrée, Tonneau, Tank Asymétrique, and Cloche de Cartier, the Tank Chinoise marks the sixth chapter of the Cartier Privé collection.
Designed by Louis Cartier in 1917 and launched in 1919, the Tank is a masterpiece of Cartier and watchmaking history. Since its launch, its distinctive shape and clean lines have allowed it to evolve over time.
The design of the Tank Chinoise pays tribute to the architecture of Chinese temples and the geometry of temple porches. Cartier recreates the porch structure by placing a horizontal axis above the vertical lugs of the Tank Chinoise. This year, this unique watch celebrates its 100th anniversary. Although it has been produced in many models, it has not been given a new design since 2004 after its previous appearance in the Cartier Libre collection.
