In 1985, the Pasha de Cartier watch was introduced. The name honors Pasha El Glaoui of Marrakesh (Pasha El Glaoui of Marrakesh, a title given to high-ranking officials in the Ottoman Empire) and a watch collector and loyal customer of the brand from the 1920s to the 1950s. Its design is inspired by a waterproof watch from 1943 with a protective grille, which is now in the Cartier archive.
In 2022, the Pasha de Cartier Grille made a comeback. The grille design is even more eye-catching on this piece: the round-to-square dial is paired with four large Arabic numerals, creating a striking geometric look. An elaborate grille adds more depth to the dial, and the details are polished completely by hand.
The Cartier watchmaking workshop has developed a new system with four tiny snap rings held in place by precisely sized springs, making it easy to put on and take off. The model comes with a grille or can be worn without it, offering two very different styles.
