When Cartier developed its first self-winding mechanical movement, with a diameter of just 25.6 mm, the 1904 PSMC is housed in the Calibre de Cartier’s 42 mm case, which clearly represents the ideal men’s watch size in the brand’s view. Cartier watches have never been limited to just style, shape, or size. Their classic Santos and Tank watches (rectangular cases) are sizable, and the Ballon Bleu and Pasha series, with their larger models and recent complications, have diameters of over 40 mm.
Stainless steel case, 4.2 mm thick, sapphire caseback, crown set with a synthetic spinel cabochon. Silver-plated opaline dial with 7 black Roman numerals and 4 luminous indexes. Cartier 1904PSMC self-winding mechanical movement with hours, minutes, small seconds, and a date window. Black alligator leather strap with folding clasp. Water-resistant to 30 meters.
The Calibre de Cartier has a very distinct character; its bezel is polished and slants 28 degrees downwards towards the dial. The brushed case, the prominent shoulder guards on the crown, and the exposed screws are unique compared to Cartier’s previous everyday watches, blending elegance and boldness. Also, the dial and crown make full use of the watch’s width and thickness.
