After splitting the sections, they are flattened with a bone press stick, cut with a fine wood carving saw, and finally put together into a delicate design pattern.
This is where the careful creation begins, ending with the koala’s straw-inlaid design on the Rotonde de Cartier. Straws of different sizes and colors are placed side by side as closely as possible to achieve a three-dimensional, deep visual effect. It takes nearly 40 hours of hard work to finish a dial.
The straw comes in seven different colors, from golden yellow to brown, and by using its natural light and golden effect, the koala pattern is created. The straw itself has a rich shine, and after being dyed and assembled on the dial, it stays in its natural state without needing any protection or coating.
