Born at the dawn of human civilization, the art of metal beads is known for its detail and decoration. As a tribute to this craft, Cartier has channeled its passion into creating the Rotonde de Cartier Cheetah-embellished watch, reinterpreting the beauty of the craft.
The Rotonde de Cartier Cheetah-embellished watch features a 42 mm 18K yellow gold case set with 306 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 3.63 carats, and an 18K yellow gold bead-shaped crown set with a brilliant-cut diamond. The 22-carat yellow gold dial is adorned with apple-shaped blued steel hands, underneath which is the House’s signature cheetah head logo made using a metal bead technique. This technique involves artisans carefully heating the gold threads until tiny beads are formed. The gold beads are then placed one by one in the decorated areas and blended with the gold base to create a vivid three-dimensional relief pattern.
The watch has a sapphire crystal case back. In terms of power, it is powered by the refined hand-wound mechanical movement of the Cartier 9601 MC workshop. It comes on a semi-matte black alligator leather strap with an adjustable folding clasp in 18K yellow gold, set with 43 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 0.42 carats. It has 30-meter water resistance and is a limited edition of 20 pieces. The watch will be unveiled at the 2013 SIHH from January 21 to 25, 2013, local time in Geneva.
