The Rotonde de Cartier Astrocalendaire perpetual calendar has changed the way perpetual calendars work and display. Cartier has created a groundbreaking idea for a new central perpetual calendar.
To make the perpetual calendar easier to read, the Rotonde de Cartier Astrocalendaire is designed to look like an amphitheater and is a true achievement in watchmaking. The traditional perpetual calendar shows 12 months, seven days of the week, dates, and leap years, all in a small space with a diameter of a few centimeters, which makes it hard to read. This new perpetual calendar solves all these issues.
Thanks to the three-dimensional, multi-layered concentric circle design, the functions of the perpetual calendar are displayed layer by layer: the first layer shows the day, the second layer shows the month, and the date is shown on the top layer. Delicate panes move along different levels. The final function of the perpetual calendar, the leap year display, is clearly shown by a hand on the case back.
