Like every classic collection from the past, Cartier’s new Clé de Cartier collection this year showcases its strong design skills, with a unique look that stands out from the mainstream of contemporary design, creating a timeless design that can influence the watch world.
Cartier’s watch designs have always had their own style. From the launch of the firstwatch in 1904, the Santos, to the Tank in 1918, to the Ballon Bleu in 2007, these watch collections that have become classics today did not follow the trends of their time when they were first designed.
Born at the beginning of the 20th century, the Santos watch was originally created to meet the needs of aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont for reading the time while flying, reflecting the industrial age’s fascination with machinery and speed. The Tank collection is inspired by the tanks that broke the stalemate in Europe and pays tribute to this important weapon invention that brought peace to Europe with a rectangular case that mimics the shape of a tank’s hull.
