In 2017, at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH 2017) in Geneva, Cartier unveiled the Rotonde de Cartier Double Mystic Tourbillon Minute Repeater. The watch is particularly striking with a floating tourbillon that rotates every 60 seconds and a sapphire crystal disc that turns every 5 minutes. After a three-year break, the brand is once again launching a new model.
While the 2017 model is made of titanium (later a platinum-encrusted diamond version), the new model is crafted from 18-carat rose gold, which enhances the minute repeater function and gives it a distinct tone. The case measures 45 mm in diameter, the crown is set with a sapphire cabochon, and from the side of the dial, you can admire the ruthenium-plated bridges.
The 2017 model is powered by the 9407MC calibre, while the new model uses the 9507MC calibre, which offers a power reserve of about 84 hours. The double mystery tourbillon is positioned off-centre between 9 and 10 o’clock on the dial, while the minute repeater mechanism is set at 6 o’clock (with a pusher at 4 o’clock). Water-resistant to 30 meters, it is fitted with a grey alligator leather strap and bears the “Poinçon de Genève” (Poinçon de Genève).
