Geneva, 23 October 2022 – Environmental commitment and protecting nature are key to the strategic development of the Cartier brand. As a result, Cartier for Nature has teamed up with the China Green Foundation to back snow leopard conservation projects.
The snow leopard is mainly found in the mountain regions of central Asia and is a key species of the mountain ecosystem. As a top predator, the snow leopard is an important sign of the health of mountain ecosystems and the effects of climate change. According to rough estimates, there are only 4,000-7,000 snow leopards left in the world, with 50%-62% of the wild individuals and about 65% of the snow leopard’s habitat in China. Additionally, the Chinese snow leopard habitat is central to the snow leopard’s global range, making conservation efforts in China very important for saving snow leopards worldwide.
Cartier for Nature has teamed up with the China Green Foundation to enhance the protection of snow leopards and their habitats in Sanjiangyuan National Park. Located in the heart of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Sanjiangyuan is one of the areas with the highest number of snow leopards in China and the world and is also a key area for protecting biodiversity. This partnership will also provide a scientific basis for creating policies on wildlife protection, ecosystem preservation, and restoration in China, and help promote a balanced relationship between people and nature.
