Description
Rolex has been working with the National Geographic Society for nearly 70 years. Together, the two groups are supporting pioneering explorers to check out the Earth’s remote places and change our understanding of the planet and environmental protection. In April 2022, Rolex and the National Geographic Society launched a new partnership to form seven teams of explorers and scientists to explore the Amazon Basin.
Compared to land rainforests, the nearly 7,000 kilometers of waterways in the Amazon Basin have received little attention from scientists. However, Rolex and the National Geographic Society have started the “Planet · Perpetual” Amazon Expedition, a diverse team of ecologists, climatologists, cartographers, geologists, and conservationists working together to fix the lack of focus on the Amazon rainforest. Using knowledge passed down by local communities, the expedition team continues to explore different parts of the Amazon Basin to understand its complex nature.
The expedition was documented by National Geographic explorer and photographer Thomas · Peschak. As a marine biologist and well-known wildlife photojournalist, he has a lot of experience that makes him the perfect person to capture this expedition. Thomas · Peschak had previously focused on the ocean, but on this trip, he dove into deep water or climbed ledges, from the Andes to the Atlantic estuary, documenting the health of the Amazon Basin.
