From November 29 to December 12, 2023, Sotheby’s New York will hold the “Fine Watches” online auction. The highlight of the sale is an extremely rare Rolex 116500LN Daytona. The watch features a purple dial and was sold by Asprey.

In the 1970s, Rolex first teamed up with Asprey. At that time, the brand sold custom watches to the Oman government through the retailer’s connections with world leaders. Coincidentally, the resulting “Oman dial” Rolex is also very popular. Around this time, Asprey began to use its signature color (purple) to customize its own Rolex watches.

Although Rolex × Asprey watches have been around for almost fifty years, they have always been rare. The Rolex × Asprey Daytona Purple Plate watch, which was auctioned in 2021, has hardly been mentioned before, either in traditional media or online.

Made from stainless steel with a diameter of 40 mm, this timepiece retains the classic Rolex Daytona style. The watch is unique in that the words “UNITS PER HOUR” on the dial and bezel are highlighted in purple, while the Asprey logo is placed below the 12 o’clock position.

The Rolex × Asprey Daytona Purple Plate Reference 21/25 is thought to be one of 25 pieces in a limited edition, with the original Asprey packaging and the August 2021 warranty.
