The “Dark Side of the Moon” from the Omega Speedmaster series stole the show. At the 2014 Grand Prix de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, Omega’s Moon chronograph won the Revival Watch Prize.

At the 2014 Basel Watch Fair, Omega launched a brand new “Dark Side of the Moon”. Inspired by lunar dust and the first and final footsteps of humans on the moon, the black ceramic was completely transformed into silver-gray ceramic, named “Ashes of the Bright Moon”. This watch tells another story of the Apollo 8 moon landing mission, recording what NASA astronaut Jim Lovell said when the spacecraft entered orbit around the moon: “The surface of the moon looks vastly gray.”

This “Ash Gray” model is the most innovative in the Speedmaster series. It features a 44.25mm gray ceramic case, a sandblasted 950 platinum dial, Moonwatch-style hands, and a ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale covered in white Super-LumiNova. It is equipped with the Omega 9300 coaxial movement, visible through the plano-convex sapphire crystal case back.

The gray ceramic screw-in crown is finely polished and feels excellent. The Omega symbol “Ω” is engraved on the top of the crown. Above the crown is the timing start button, which controls the start and stop of timing, and below is the timing reset button.

The crocodile leather strap, matching the case color, is finely crafted with gray and red stitching.  It is equipped with a gray ceramic pin buckle, simple and convenient to wear. The buckle is engraved with the Omega symbol “Ω“.

As the new “Dark Side of the Moon” launched by Omega at the Baselworld Watch Fair in 2014, it shifted from the previous cool black ceramic material to a vast gray color resembling the moon’s surface, making it truly eye-catching. The 9300 self-winding chronograph movement, featuring a longitudinal wheel timing device and a coaxial escapement system, ensures stable and long-lasting accurate timing.
