Description
For nearly a century, Rolex has supported pioneers in their quest to push the limits of what is human. As the world has changed, Rolex has shifted exploration from pure discovery to a way to protect the planet, supporting exceptional people and organizations to use science to understand and develop solutions to today’s environmental challenges.
The Rolex brand further highlighted its commitment in 2019 with the launch of the Perpetual Planet Initiative. The program initially focused on three areas: supporting exceptional individuals to contribute to a better future through the Rolex Awards for Enterprise; participating in Mission Blue to protect the world’s oceans; and a long-standing collaboration with the National Geographic Society to understand the current state of global climate change.
As the scope of the partnership continues to expand, partners in Perpetual Planet now include: environmental photographers Cristina Mittermeier and Paul Nicklen; conservation photographers; Tompkins Conservation’s Argentina Rewilding and Chile Rewilding Foundations, which are dedicated to protecting South America’s natural environment; the Coral Gardeners project, which transplants resilient corals onto coral reefs; a series of expeditions by Steve Boyes and the Great Spine of Africa to explore the continent’s major river basins; the “Under The Pole” expedition, which pushes the boundaries of underwater exploration; the 2023 B.I.G. expedition to the Arctic to collect data on natural threats to the region; and the Monaco Blue Initiative, which brings together marine conservation experts to discuss environmental issues.
Rolex also provides scholarships and grants to support organizations and initiatives to nurture the next generation of explorers, scientists, and conservationists through programs such as the Our World-Underwater Scholarship Society and The Rolex Explorers Club Grants.
